totally random... and I will update my avatar eventually... but did you ever get the head bearings taken care of on your HD? If not, let me know, I gave Eric some tips to relay to you.

Yep... mig welded a bead around the bearing races and they literally fell out when the weld cooled. I had to cut the bearing off of the stem. Made a cut with a dremel, then hit it with a chisel and it came off easily. Used a steel pipe to drive the new bearing on.

Pulled the wheel bearings out of the front wheel, pressed in new ones. Rebuilt my forks and replaced the old springs with progressives. It's all back together now except for the fairing. Adding new driving lights so I'm not in a big hurry and it got cold.

Been working on bikes for a real long time and there usually isnt anything I cant handle... but Harley seems to make a lot of things harder than they have to be, so they can sell you specialized tools at ridiculous prices.

And I had to laugh at the shop manual where it discusses fork removal.

"Step 1. Disassemble motorcycle."

Yes, it really says that Confused2

Yeah, My MV Agusta was the same way. EVERYTHING on that fucking bike was a special tool thing, even the wheels - and most were Dealer Only special tools.... although when it was built, MV *was* owned by Harley.... Hmmmmmm. They admittedly just didn't want the consumer to work on the bike apparently. When I sold the bike, the special tools went with it and my toolbox suddenly became real empty.
