RE: gas
Yes. You have to run premium or put octane boost in
You only get back what you put in! |

RE: gas
Generally speaking, no, it will not hurt it.
I think your bike specs call for 90 or better (at sea level) Where are you riding it ? And at what pace ? Is it just a temporary thing ? Or are you asking if its ok to run 87 all the time? At our elevation, you should be fine (unless doing track days). The bike will only reach manufacturer rated compression pressure at sea level and wide open throttle. Basically, you want to run the lowest octane possible where your motor does not ping/knock due to pre-detonation. --- Charlie don't surf! The Cake is a Lie! You're gonna love my nuts! RE: gas
750's are 91 octane.
You can run lower but it will hurt performance possible and if it starts to ping, put a higher octane in.. RE: gas
From the K8-K9 GSXR 750 manual:
Fuel and Oil Recommendation Fuel (For USA and Canada) Use only unleaded gasoline of at least 90 pump octane (R/2 + M/2). Gasoline containing MTBE (Meltyl Tertiary Butyl Ether), less than 10% ethanol, or less than 5% methanol with appropriate cosolvents and corrosion inhibitor is permissible. But, I'm not sure what year his is... --- Charlie don't surf! The Cake is a Lie! You're gonna love my nuts! Specially at our altitude. Up here 89 is just fine, 91 is not needed. And 87 is probably ok for regular riding. --- Charlie don't surf! The Cake is a Lie! You're gonna love my nuts! RE: gas
My owners manual recommends 89 or above, at sea level.
I run 91 anyway. Why not, given my frequent demands for performance. As for OP, run what the manual says. Besides, unless you're putting as many miles on your bike as I do, does a few extra pennies at the pump really matter? Think for yourself, question authority. |
