RE: Was browsing bikes today...
I've seen a couple of the FZ-09's on base and they seem like decent bikes. One guy has a Two bros exhaust on it and it sounds pretty meaty. For the money involved, it seems that you get some decent performance, even if the suspension is a bit lacking in stock trim.

I've also recently seen a brand new Z1000 on base too and that is definitely a unique looking bike, and I mean that in a good way. I've been considering getting something different as well, and have been looking hard at one of the new nakeds out there and the FZ-09, while not my first choice, is definitely in the mix, simply because of the price point.

the one and only problem for me is as soon as you hit 1k size on any bike, they get HUGE, the tank, fairings, everything seems larger to me... saw the 1000R at bmw and it was hugee.. just doesnt seem like a easy bike to handle around the city..

Usually they are heavier, but with only a few exceptions, most are identical sized as the smaller counter parts physically.

Both euro bikes, while "Nicer" will definite take whatever you throw at them... its more a matter of do you want to drag them through the mud or not. The Duc probably more than the triumph although I see a lot of stunt guys using the triumphs with relatively little molestation to make them stunt bikes so they seem to take the abuse.

keep in mind as well the cost of having to update/upgrade exhaust, suspension, ect. vs what comes on a higher end bike already, so there is that.

Lastly, and not too look like I am dogging the yamaha too much here, but it really is kind of common sense that you never want to buy the first model year anything... kinda like first version OS's... full of bugs or quirks. food for thought.
