Valve Adjustment and CCT on a FZ6?
Hi guys,

New to the forum thanks to Vegasrider.Yahoo

I have a question.
I just bought a 2008 Yamaha FZ6 and its coming up on 26500miles which is when the valves have to be adjusted/checked. I also noticed that my CCT starts making noise. I went to a local shop and they quoted me $850+ for the valves and CCT which seems a bit expensive?!Huh

I don't have the tools or the room to try it myself (quite frankly I'm not sure my knowledge is enough to do it myself) and I was wondering if any of you guys know a shop or a good mechanic who could check/adjust the valves and replace the CCT?!BlushAngel

Any help is greatly appreciated.

What shop did you go to? We have a couple guys in town we trust to work on our bikes.

Valve check should be around 300-500 depending on work done. CCT can be done while doing valve check and should only be another hour or 2 labor.

Also, get the adjustable CCT if you do so that in future you can adjust your self and save money!!

As far as shops go in vegas,

In my personal order of mechanics..

Steve - LV Dyno tech
RacersEdge
Cycletech

All awesome guys. I just have a longer relationship with steve and is my go to guy I recommend most people to.

Dave over at cycletech and Racersedge are close tie.

I think racersedge is more geared towards track heads and performance nuts...

Thanks,

Went to major powersports. Mike at the parts counter said the valve adjustment will be 500-600 and the cct another 200-250. They would do both at the same time, which is why he only quoted about 250 for the CCT. Just getting the CCT changed would be around 400.

I think he checked for an aftermarket/manual CCT but he couldn't find one?! I haven't really looked into the CCT's yet since i wasn't sure if it needed to be replaced but i took my bike there on friday to have them listen to the sounds and the mechanic said the CCT needs to be replaced.

Well Michael I see it didn't take long to become a forum member. Be sure to check out TWT (Two Wheel Tuesdays) an informal get together to grab some good grub, location changes every week. Probably what I miss most from this forum. I think there is a separate thread dedicating where the location is each week. For some, it's Four Wheel Tuesday, they cage it, don't understand why though.
