RE: Dualsports
Majority of Duals only do road or dirt OK then the flip side road or dirt horribly. But it all depends on ur style tho... I've rode a handfull of DS and I happen to like the BMW 650 gs and if you want a bigger size Yamaha Super Tenere. Can't comment on the KTMs due to never riding one

RE: Dualsports
Are you looking for mostly pavement/graded dirt roads ?
Or more off-road oriented ? (rocky off-road, hill climbs, lesser traveled trails, etc) Do you have much off-road bike experience ? --- Charlie don't surf! The Cake is a Lie! I don't have any off road experience. And mainly gonna stay on paved roads until I wanna adventure. Nothing Motocross, just adventuring on the bike in the desert.

RE: Dualsports
I consider going to the bathroom a dualsport. But any 250 would be a great start for the dirt. wouldnt get anything much more powerful until you get comfy.
Lots of cheapys on craigs, might even be able to save a buck buy one that needs a lil TLC.
