You need a much louder horn for it to be effective. The stock horn don't do anything. The Banshee or Stebel should do the trick.

I still want to do the train horn mod..

You can get a stebel knock-off on ebay pretty cheaply. The hardest part is finding someplace to put the damn thing, they're so bulky. Anything with a fairing is easier to find an install location than on naked bikes.
Make sure you use the relay, and wire it with heavy gauge wiring. Justin and I learned that the hard way when installing one on my bike. Normal size wiring wasn't supplying enough juice to really get the horn going.
