Below are a number of storylines leading up to the Daytona Supercross By Honda and the 72nd Daytona 200, as well as events on the Daytona Flat Track. ON THE TRACK Josh Hayes Jumps Into 2013: Josh Hayes returns to Daytona International Speedway with the Monster Energy Graves Yamaha team riding a Yamaha R1 following an impressive 2012 GEICO Motorcycle AMA Pro Road Racing season. Hayes not only accomplished 16 wins out of 20 races last year, but also took home his third-consecutive AMA National Guard SuperBike championship. Last year at Daytona, Hayes won the AMA Opening Round Superbike Race 1 and secured second place during the AMA Opening Round Superbike Race 2. First Female Daytona Champion Back Again: Last year, Elena Myers made history by becoming the first woman to win a professional event at Daytona International Speedway after capturing the second round of the GEICO Motorcycle AMA Pro Motorcycle-SuperStore.com SuperSport. This year, the 19-year-old Myers will be gunning for a victory in the historic Daytona 200 on Saturday, March 16 riding for Sturgess Cycle Triumph. British SuperBike Star Stammova Debuts At Daytona: Sandra Stammova, the Slovakian native and British SuperBike sensation, will bring her talents to the United States to compete in GEICO Motorcycle AMA Pro Road Racing’s Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson Series on Friday, March 15. Mossey Makes His Way to Daytona: European motorcycle rider, Luke Mossey, will also make his debut at Daytona this year for the AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike race on March 16. Mossey has competed in the Spanish 125 Series, as well as the British SuperBike. The European superstar will race the Daytona 200 on a Yamaha YZF-R6, but has no present plans of future races in America. Mossey will return to Europe to finish out the British Championship season. Pascarella looking to repeat: Joey Pascarella, riding a Yamaha for Project One, captured the 2012 edition of the Daytona 200, the prestigious season-opening event to the AMA Pro Daytona SportBike season. In this year’s 72nd Daytona 200 on Saturday, March 16, Pascarella will be riding a Triumph 675R as he attempts to become the first back-to-back winner of the Daytona 200 since Mat Mladin back in 2000 and 2001.
