Quake

LAS VEGAS -- The U.S. Geological Survey has reported an earthquake registering 3.8 Tuesday morning about 34 miles northeast of Las Vegas.

News 3 received several calls into the newsroom from people unsure if the ground really shook and asking for information.

The earthquake was centered 19 miles southwest of Moapa. The United States geological survey said the earthquake hit at 9:03 Tuesday morning.

News 3's Marissa Mike has a report on and the quake.

One woman said her house was rocking. As we moved toward the strip, Las Vegans said it was business as usual.

But for those who felt the quake, it was very unsettling.

Debra Schreck who lives near Tropicana and Boulder Highway says her mobile home is damaged because of the quake.

She says there are new cracks on the walls and hairline cracks are bigger because of Tuesday morning's temblor especially where the walls meet the ceiling.

Schreck says it was her house cat, Squeaks, that probably sensed the quake even before the ground starting shaking.

The epicenter was 7.8 miles beneath the surface. There have been 12 reports of the incident filed on the USGS website
